The following are key features of the LX7720MLF-DB Evaluation Board:

  • A linker board supports direct connection to FPGA evaluation boards with an FMC-HPC connector such as RTG4 FPGA DEV-KIT, RT PolarFire FPGA RTPF-DEV-KIT, PolarFire FPGA MPF300-EVAL-KIT, and SmartFusion2 SoC FPGA M2S150-ADV-DEV-KIT
  • A 2x20 0.1" pin header provides alternative access to signals for connection to non-FPGA control systems
  • Linker boards support direct connection to the SAMRH71F20-EK evaluation kit and SAMRH71-TFBGA-EK evaluation kit for the radiation hardened SAMRH71F20 MCU
  • A linker board supports direct connection to the SAMRH707F18-EK evaluation kit for the radiation hardened SAMRH707F18 MCU
  • Includes the eight NFETs and output current sensing for the full four half-bridges supported by the LX7720, allowing direct connection to typically 3-phase PMSM and BLDC motors, or 2-phase bipolar stepper motors
  • Space grade hi-reliability 1N5809US power diodes are fitted for the four high-side NFET charge pumps to help evaluating half-bridge performance in flight 
  • The eight NFETs on board can be switched out and surplanted by user-fitted alternative NFETs on the underside of the board. The pads suit Microchip's range of JANS-qualified, SMD-05 surface mount power MOSFETs, such as the JANSR2N7587U3 100V, 22A NFET
  • Each of the four half-bridges is controlled by a switch allowing any half-bridge to controlled manually, interrupting the control signals to just that half-bridge
  • On-board test waveform generators provide 24kHz and full-step stepper waveforms to be switched to the half-bridges for evaluation purposes. A small stepper motor is provided with the kit, allowing LX7720 motor drive operations to be examined without any firmware development
  • The motor VMPS supply is switchable between the either included 24V DC adapter or an external 0V to 60V supply
  • On-board regulators generate a switchable 12V or 15V VGS gate drive supply, the 5V VCC analog supply, and the  3.3V VDD logic supply required by the LX7720
  • Any internal regulator can be switched out and an alternative external supplies used instead
  • The resolver/LVDT primary drive supply is switchable between VGS and an external supply
  • All supplies (VMPS, VGS, VDD, VCC, and resolver/LVDT) are supplied through current sensing resistors for easy current monitoring
  • The LX7720's MOD_CLK clock is switchable between an on-board 25MHz oscillator module and the 2x20 0.1" pin signals header, to be provided by an external FPGA, MCU, or other source
  • The LX7720's CP_CLK clock is  is switchable between an on-board 195kHz oscillator module and the 2x20 0.1" pin signals header, to be provided by an external FPGA, MCU, or other source
  • A 0.1" pin header provides access to the LX7720's six BLI bi-level comparator inputs. The corresponding six BLO comparator outputs are routed to the 2x20 0.1" pin signals header
  • The LX7720's resolver/LVDT primary drive is configured with a balanced LC filter targetting applications using PWM synthesis of a sine drive waveform

Overview


The LX7720MLF-DB Evaluation Board is a hardware platform intended to speed up the development process for the LX7720 radiation-hardened by design motor driver for spacecraft actuation and control systems.

The LX7720MLF-DB Evaluation Board contains a soldered in place plastic-packaged production LX7720MLF and peripherals to allow LX7720 functionality to be quickly evaluated with permanent magnet synchronous motors and stepper motors. Demonstration firmware is available for radiation hardened RTG4 FPGAs and Microchip's family of high-reliability 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M7 microcontrollers for space.

A 2x20 0.1" pin header provides access to LX7720 signals for control systems. The kit includes linker boards to provide easy interfacing of the LX7720MLF-DB to a the following Microchip development boards:
