Unified License for MPLAB® XC Compilers

New License Structure Effective February 24, 2025

One License for All MPLAB® XC Compilers

Our unified MPLAB XC compiler license structure provides you with more design flexibility and a more efficient development experience with our products. For existing customers with MPLAB XC PRO compiler licenses, we will be migrating your legacy license and applying its expiration date to the new unified license; we’ve provided more details about the transition to the unified license in the tables below.

  • Simplified license management
    • One license will now cover all four compilers:
      • MPLAB XC8 compiler
      • MPLAB XC16 compiler
      • MPLAB XC-DSC compiler
      • MPLAB XC32 compiler
  • Enhanced flexibility: You can easily switch between different compilers without needing separate licenses
  • Improved support and resources: You will have access to comprehensive support and resources for all compilers under a single license

Changes to HPA Compiler Maintenance and Support Plan

While no changes have been made to the functionality of the licenses, the High Priority Access (HPA) compiler maintenance and support plan has been modified. Upon the expiration of your current HPA subscription:

  • Your license will continue to work with the existing or currently released compilers
  • Your HPA can be renewed at the end of 12 months or any time after to provide access to new compiler versions, new part support and patch-level updates

In most cases, the transition to the unified MPLAB XC C compiler license should be seamless and require minimal action on your part. Please use the tables below to learn how your type of license will be affected by this change and about any actions you will need to perform
