Medical Implant ICs for Pacemakers

Modern pacemakers consume between 10 and 40 microwatts from an internal cell and remain implanted to regulate the patient’s cardiac rhythm 24 hours a day, seven days a week for seven or more years using a single power source.

Each pacemaker has an RF Medical Implant Communication System (MICS) transceiver that enables the transfer of data to and from a base station at home. This data can then be forwarded to a physician’s office where the doctor can read it to diagnose any abnormalities. Implantable devices must also be able to withstand electrical surges, such as those caused by medical treatments like defibrillation.

We have over five decades of experience in developing custom pacemaker and surge protection chips. Our compact and reliable Ultra-Low-Power (ULP) ICs extend the battery life of the implanted device. Our high-performance surge protection devices for implantable medical electronics are optimized for fast turn-on and extremely low current leakage, which makes them an excellent choice for reliable patient care.
