Next-Generation Requirements for 5G Network Infrastructure

5G technology has been developed to provide some key improvements over 4G LTE wireless infrastructure, including:

  • Offering up to 10 times more bandwidth for mobile high-speed Internet access
  • Offering up to 10 times more connections for IoT and sensor devices
  • Reducing network latency by up to 10 times

5G uses a variety of frequencies to deliver the high bandwidth and low latency that next-generation mobile broadband connectivity requires. On the lower end, it continues to use LTE frequencies of < 2.5 GHz. However, it has been expanded to support 3.5 GHz and, in some cases, it may support up to 6 GHz. Many carriers are planning to implement 5G connectivity at classic microwave (28 GHz and 32 GHz) frequencies and at V band and E band millimeter wave (up to 71 GHz) frequencies to provide even more bandwidth at higher speeds.

5G Radio Access Networks (RANs) incorporate macrocells and small cells to create Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets) that can further enhance performance and boost capacity.

To support 5G mobile networks, telecommunications carriers around the world also need to upgrade their wired access, backhaul and core networks. Our solutions can be used macro base stations, small cells, and microwave backhaul, midhaul and fronthaul and RAN transport equipment.
