The Class B library contains the diagnostic tests necessary to develop your end product and get the IEC 60730 standard certification. This library for the dsPIC33E DSCs is verified by VDE and certified by UL. You can download it for free and use it with our dsPIC33E DSCs. The Class B safety routines can be called periodically at startup or runtime to test:

  • CPU registers and program counter
  • Invariable and variable memory
  • Clock

Application Note AN1778 - Class B Safety Software Library for dsPIC33E DSCs


AN1778 describes the Class B Safety Software Library routines that are developed in accordance with the IEC 60730 Class B standard. The application note describes:

  • How the diagnostic routines can be used to detect the occurrences of faults in a single-channel microcontroller (MCU)
  • How the diagnostic routines can be readily integrated with your application to test and verify critical functionalities

In addition, the application note outlines techniques beyond Class B safety routines to test components such as external communication, timing, I/Os and analog multiplexer.
