The MCP3462R is a low-noise 16-bit Delta-Sigma Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), with four single-ended or two differential input channels and programmable data rate of up to 153.6 kSPS. It offers integrated features such as internal Vref, oscillator, temperature sensor and burnout sensor detection, in order to reduce system component count and total solution cost.
The MCP3462R ADC is fully configurable with Oversampling Ratio (OSR) from 32 to 98304 and gain from 0.33X to 64X. It includes an internal sequencer(SCAN mode) with multiple monitor channels and a 24-bit timer to be able to automatically create conversion loop sequences without needing MCU communications. Advanced security features such as CRC and register map lock, can guarantee configuration locking and integrity as well as communication data integrity for secure environments.
The device also features a 20 MHz SPI-compatible serial interface. Communication is largely simplified with 8-bit commands, including various continuous Read/Write modes and 24/32-bit multiple data formats that can be accessed by the Direct Memory Access (DMA) of an 8-bit, 16-bit or 32-bit MCU. The MCP3462R is available in an ultra-small, 3 mm x 3 mm UQFN-20, and leaded 6.4 mm x 6.4mm TSSOP-20 package and is specified over an extended temperature range from -40°C to +125°C.
The MCP3461R is a similar device with just one differential (two single-ended) input channel(s), but equivalent performance and functionality.
The MCP3464R is a similar device with four differential (eight single-ended) input channels, but equivalent performance and functionality.
Finally, the MCP3562R is a 24 bit version of this device. It is pin and software compatible, making for easy transition if it would be valuable to make such a transition down the road.
