The MCP2221 is a USB-to-UART/I2C serial converter which enables USB connectivity in applications that have a UART and I²C interfaces. The device reduces external components by integrating the USB termination resistors and the oscillator needed for USB operation. The MCP2221 also has four GP pins providing miscellaneous functionalities (GPIO, USBCFG, SSPND, Clock Output, ADC, DAC, interrupt detector).

 Microchip has developed the Residential Solar Breaker Reference Design as a high reliability example reference breaker solution for single phase residential solar installations. It is less common for suppliers to be able to source their own breaker solutions, and this reference design is seen as a first step in supporting this capability. Breakers are important from an operational perspective as solar Inverters need to be able to be to connect/disconnect the inverter from the grid in case of fluctuations, as well as to allow for removal of the inverter for inspection and maintenance purposes. Additionally, the Reference Design provides for on-board energy monitoring, that can be used to provide more granular data on energy generation of the system vs. the energy consumption requirements.
