Overview

Microchip’s SLVS-EC FMC daughter card (VIDEO-DC-SLVS) is a dedicated platform for evaluating and testing the SLVS-EC receiver IP for PolarFire® FPGAs. Developed by Sony, the Scalable Low-Voltage Signaling with Embedded Clock (SLVS-EC) is a high-speed interface designed for next-generation high-resolution CMOS image sensors. The standard incorporates an embedded clock, enabling large-capacity, high-speed data transmission over long distances, thus widely used in automotive camera systems, medical imaging, and industrial applications, such as machine vision and robotics.

Microchip offers an FPGA-based SLVS-EC reference solution comprising a dedicated hardware kit, comprehensive IP, and a ready-to-run demonstration design. PolarFire FPGAs support SLVS-EC with a transceiver-based IP that allows a speed of up to 4.7 Gbps per lane in 2, 4, or 8-lane configurations. It is part of our extensive Smart Embedded Vision Portfolio of IPs and solutions, a popular choice for vision applications at the edge.

The daughter card incorporates a Sony IMX530 camera sensor, lens, and related accessories to get you started quickly. The daughter card works with the PolarFire Video Kit featuring the PolarFire 300KLE FPGA device. The demonstrative design showcases the reception of SLVS EC RX data from the IMX-530 camera. On the display side, the image processing pipeline incorporates Bayer interpolation, gamma correction, and image enhancement IPs to improve the raw camera image. Additionally, the demo utilizes automatic camera exposure control, adjusting to varying lighting conditions. The output of the camera input video is presented on an HDMI monitor linked to the HDMI 2.0 TX port, supporting full HD resolution. Image enhancements, including contrast, brightness, and color balance, apply to the output, and a unified GUI control manages these enhancements across the video outputs.

It works with the PolarFire® Video and Imaging Kit (MPF300-VIDEO-KIT-NS) featuring the PolarFire® 300KLE FPGA device.

The encrypted version of the SLVS-EC Receiver IP is not license-locked and is free with any Libero License. The IP and the hardware must be purchased separately as and where applicable.
