The MPLAB XC C compiler family integrates into Microchips MPLAB® X IDE, is compatible with all Microchip debuggers and emulators, runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, and also comes with 12 months of High Priority Access - a maintenance subscription providing web access to new version releases and priority technical support for the compiler.
Overview
Our MPLAB® XC C Compiler PRO license provides valuable optimizations that reduce the size of your code and increase the efficiency of your software. We also offer our 12-month High Priority Access (HPA) product to maintain your PRO license to allow updating your compiler to the latest version, provide you with priority access to technical support and give you free shipping of development tools that you order on Microchip’s Purchasing and Client Services e-commerce website.
Effective September 1, 2020 there were changes made to how MPLAB XC Compiler licenses are renewed. There will be no changes to the actual functions of the licenses. The following changes apply to this license type:
- MPLAB XC PRO licenses will expire one year after activation unless HPA is renewed. This is also applicable to existing licenses.

The MPLAB XC16 C Compiler is a full-featured, highly-optimized ANSI C compiler for the PIC24 Microcontroller families. This compiler integrates into Microchips MPLAB(R) X IDE, is compatible with all Microchip debuggers and emulators, and runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.The MPLAB XC16 PRO Workstation license unlocks the full potential and performance of all possible optimizations.
- While XC16 compiler will maintain support for the dsPIC30F, dsPIC33F, dsPIC33E and dsPIC33C DSCs, we encourage customers to migrate to the XC-DSC compiler for any new projects with the dsPIC33 DSCs. However, Use XC16 for any new projects using the PIC24 MCUs
