MCP19061 USB Dual Charging Port (DCP) KIT

Design Benefits:

  • Tested to support USB Power Delivery (PD) 3.1 specifications using industry standard third-party USB compliance test suites.
  • GUI-based demo to operate dual channel, digitally controlled, “smart charging” applications for various USB-PD loads.
  • Provide power balancing feature between ports for better control over the charging process and deliver the right power for each device.
  • Enable USB PD Programmable Power Supply (PPS) fast charging capability for advanced charging technology modifying the voltage and current in real time to provide maximum power based on a device’s charging status.
  • Integrated protection for occupied less area with fewer chip placement. Protections include short-to-battery protection on CC, battery short-to-GND protection for charging ports, over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, and reverse voltage protection for passing VCONN, and over-temperature protection (thermal shutdown).
  • DCP is used for charging USB-PD-connected devices, providing output voltages from 5V to 20V and output currents up to 3A.
  • Operational input voltage range from 6V to 18V.
  • Support total output power >100W.
  • Dynamically reconfigurable charging operation using the provided GUI and USB-to-serial bridge.
  • All operational parameters are programmable by utilizing the two integrated microcontrollers.
  • MCP19061 device operates in a 4-switch buck-boost topology to supply USB loads and charge two USB channels.
  • UCS4002 device provides robust protection for the USB-C port, including VCONN power support.

Overview

Limited supply, Early Access Kits Available

This USB Power Delivery (PD) dual charging early access kit allows for development of specification-compliant USB PD 3.1 and USB PD 3.2 charging solutions. The board demonstrates an example charging circuit with robust protections, charge rationing between two ports, dynamically reconfigurable charge profile availability, up to 20V / 3A for a given load. Using the included USB bridging board and the provided GUI, different configuration options can be quickly tested with real-world load devices charging on the USB ports. In addition, sample devices are included for designing and testing alternate charging implementations, which could provide charging up to 20V / 5A with appropriate component selection.

Package Contents

The evaluation kit contains:

  • One MCP19061 Dual USB Charging Evaluation Board
  • One MCP2221A USB Breakout Interface Board for interfacing the charging board to a computer to tablet with the configuration GUI
  • 5 pieces of MCP19061T-E/RTB USB PD DC-DC converter engineering samples
  • 5 pieces of UCS4002-E/6N USB port protection device engineering samples
  • Board user guide, preliminary device datasheets and software GUI are available for download after purchase.
System Requirements

Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 7/8/10/11 operating system and a USB 2.0 port are required to run the GUI for reconfiguring the demo board.
