Overview

The EPC9146KITA Evaluation Kit is comprised of two boards that together form a complete motor control development solution.

The EPC9147A board hosts a Microchip motor control Plug-in Module (purchased separately), such as the MA330031-2 featuring the dsPIC33EP256MC506 Digital Signal Controller (DSC).  It directly interfaces to the EPC9146 board which contains the motor drive inverter.  The EPC9147A board is fully compatible with Microchip’s motorBench® Development Suite making it easy to generate a sensored or sensorless Field Oriented Control (FOC) algorithm tuned for the motor and load.  The board also supports voltage feedback for sensorless BEMF control and optical encoder feedback.  It measures 99.3 mm x 68 mm (L x W) and has a fully isolated micro-USB communications interface that is powered by the host computer on the isolated side and by the motor inverter board on the non-isolated side.

The EPC9146 Power Board contains three independently controlled half bridge circuits, featuring the EPC2152 monolithic ePower™ Stage with integrated gate driver, 80VDC maximum device voltage and 15A maximum output current.  It can operate under full load with PWM frequencies up to 3 MHz. The EPC9146 board contains critical functions for the inverter, including a monolithic power stage with integrated gate driver, regulated auxiliary power rails, voltage, current and temperature sensing circuits, and circuit protection functions.  It measures 81 mm x 75 mm (L x W) and can be fitted with an optional heat-sink.
