Introducing Our New MIL-STD JAN Transistors: Engineered for Ultimate Reliability

Learn more about our portfolio of MIL-STD JAN transistors.

Enhancing Reliability with MIL-STD ELDRS Qualified BJTs

In the ever-evolving landscape of aerospace and defense technology, reliability and resilience are paramount. As a leading supplier to the aerospace and defense market, we have taken a significant step forward by adding Military-Standard (MIL-STD) Enhanced Low Dose Radiation Sensitivity (ELDRS) qualification to our portfolio of small-signal Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs). This advancement ensures that critical applications can operate reliably in radiation environments.

MIL-STD JAN Transistors for Space Applications

The Importance of ELDRS Qualification

Low dose rate ionizing dose response of semiconductors has become a key concern in space applications.  Many components are routinely tested using the standard high dose rate of 50-300rad(Si)/s to 100K TID and higher, but the natural space environment has dose rates that are orders of magnitude lower, with typical TID rates of 100K TID and lower.

Semiconductor devices mostly have a different response to low dose rate versus high dose rate ionizing radiation. When the response is worse with low dose rates the device is said to exhibit low dose rate sensitivity. BJTs are a type of semiconductor that have shown a difference in performance between low dose and high dose rate radiation. Not correctly understanding the performance of the semiconductor in both environments could lead to incorrect designs that may cause catastrophic failures in space vehicles.

The MIL-STD Advantage with Low Dose Rate Testing

Our portfolio of Joint Army Navy (JAN) transistors is tested and qualified to meet ELDRS requirements, MIL-STD-750, Test Method 1019, Condition C.  The devices are available to slash-sheet specification MIL-PRF-19500/255, /291, /355, /376 and /391. This compliance ensures that our transistors are not only robust but also meet the high-quality standards required for military and aerospace applications.

Tailored Radiation Tolerance

Understanding that different missions have varying radiation exposure levels, we have diversified our JAN transistor offerings to cater to a broad spectrum of low dose rate radiation requirements which are identified by the following designators:

  • JANSU Transistors: Radiation hardened, capable of enduring up to 100 krad(Si)
  • JANSK Transistors: Radiation tolerant up to 50 krad(Si).
  • JANSE Transistors: Radiation tolerant up to 30 krad(Si).

In-House Testing for Uncompromised Performance

We don't just rely on industry standards to assure the quality of our transistors. Our in-house testing facilities subject each component to a series of rigorous checks to guarantee superior performance, even in the harshest conditions. This commitment to quality ensures that our transistors are not only compliant with military specifications but also exceed the expectations of our clients in the field.
