Innovate in Your Designs with the new PIC24F GU/GL MCUs offering Low Power LCD Display Driver and Smart Performance

Packed with several Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) including the segmented LCD driver with autonomous animation, that can function in power-saving modes, the PIC24F ‘GU/GL’ MCUs offer eXtreme low power operation for power-conscious designs. These MCUs simplify designing a range of applications from Cloud connected low power edge nodes to sensor nodes operating in harsh environments.

Innovate in Your Designs with the new PIC24F GU/GL MCUs offering Low Power LCD Display Driver and Smart Performance

The PIC24F GU/GL family of eXtreme Low Power (XLP) microcontrollers (MCUs) enables the development of an array of innovative applications, both with and without displays. Most display applications involve a few common animations like blinking of certain pixels, periodically alternating between screens to display two different parameters and blanking of pixels. By using the integrated segment LCD driver with autonomous animation, a new core independent feature available on PIC24F GU/GL family of low power MCUs, you can offload most of these animation routines from the CPU. This allows you to enable animation in power-saving modes while the CPU is in doze, idle or sleep mode and facilitates your design to conserve more power by reducing the frequency of CPU wake ups.

See Figures 1A, 1B and 1C

Along with integrated LCD Display driver, the PIC24F ‘GU/GL’ family is packed with many Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) that can function in power-saving modes enabling ultra-low power operation for battery-powered and other power-conscious designs.

Smart, Connected and Secure

Securing your connected or stand-alone system is critical to protect it from attacks. The PIC24F ‘GU/GL’ MCUs include code protection features and work with our CryptoAuthentication™ devices to simplify adding security to your application. The code protection features such as CodeGuard™ Flash Security and Flash OTP by ICSP™ Write Inhibit enable implementing secure boot in your application. With some of the MCUs within this family supporting dual panel Flash, you can realize secure over the air firmware upgrades with very little down time. The CryptoAuthLib Library and 16-bit Bootloader Library, which are supported by MPLAB® Code Configurator (MCC), a free and easy-to-use graphical programming tool, eliminate the complexities of developing secure designs and enable connecting your low power edge nodes to the Cloud.

Robust Designs

Capable of functioning in harsh environment, these MCUs operate up to 125°C and include a range of hardware safety features like Flash Error Correction Code (ECC) and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) for memory and data integrity verification, Window Watchdog Timer (WDT) and Deadman Timer (DMT) for software health monitoring, Fail-Safe Clock Monitor (FCSM), High/Low Voltage Detect (HLVD), Brown Out Reset (BOR) and others for system monitoring, making them ideal for automotive, industrial, and consumer applications requiring reliable operation. In addition, these MCUs support VDE- and UL-certified Class B safety library for safety-critical household appliances targeting IEC 60730 compliance which can easily integrate into your application to test and verify the critical functionalities.
