Training Program to Help You Develop a MOST System


The INICnet™ Technology and MOST Training Track consists of learning modules that are designed to support clients who are developing a MOST system or device based on INICnet technology. We recommend that you start your education with the INICnet System Training module, which serves as the foundation for the more-advanced INICnet Hardware Training module, based on the OS8121x/OS81118 INICs, followed by MOST NetServices V3.2 Training as the third module in this track.

INICnet System Training – Two Days



This class provides a comprehensive overview of INICnet technology, covering all the basic network functions including the handling of stream data, packet data and control messaging. It also introduces you to the basics of MOST system management, which are illustrated by a variety of configuration examples. This training consists of a mix of lectures and hands-on sections where you will learn how to set up, configure and analyze a MOST system using popular analysis tools like OptoLyzer® MOCCA compact, OptoLyzer Studio, MOST System Management Module (MSMM) and MOST ToGo development boards for prototyping your designs.

This training is the foundation for the other modules in this track.

  • Hierarchical system management in MOST networks, basic communication principles

INICnet Hardware Training – One Day


This class provides a comprehensive overview of the general and advanced features of the OS8121x and OS81118 families of INICs and includes a detailed discussion of enhanced network and system stability concepts. Other key topics include the configuration of data routing and an introduction to the MediaLB® bus interface. This training includes hands-on activities where you will analyze the INIC’s communication and study/modify its configuration using test and development tools including OptoLyzer MOCCA compact, INIC evaluation boards, MPLAB® Network Creator and INICkit.

  • Basic understanding of INICnet technology provided by the INICnet System Training module
  • General knowledge of digital hardware and communication techniques

  • Network protection, application watchdog and attach process
  • Application interfaces, overview of INIC data routing including ports, sockets and connections

  • MediaLB bus basics: topologies, frames and data structure, logical channels
  • General device architecture, ECL, network diagnosis, ring break diagnosis

MOST NetServices v3.2 Training – One Day


This class will teach you how to hook up your application to a MOST system based on INICnet technology. It provides a comprehensive overview of the API and structure of the programming library with a strong focus on implementing typical MOST network functions, such as handling network events, transmission of streaming data, configuration of command interpreter and notification services. A mix of lectures and hands-on exercises will provide you with the skills that you need to quickly develop your projects.

On request, this module can be customized to focus on specific questions or requirements of the participants.

  • Basic understanding of INICnet technology provided by the INICnet System Training module
  • Programming in C

  • MOST NetServices introduction: role of MOST NetServices in the application and network, modules overview
  • MOST NetServices configuration: dimensioning of message buffers and module parameters
  • Tracing and debugging: understanding the communication  protocol, information and functions needed to trace and debug applications
  • Low-Level Driver (LLD): implementations for I2C/MediaLB/SPI interfaces, requirements and pitfalls
  • Control communication: functions for sending, receiving and acting on messages
  • MOST Data Packet (MDP) communication: handling of MDPs, basics of MHP, MOST Asynchronous Medium Access Control (MAMAC), Packetizer
  • Handling of Ethernet Frames (MEP): implementation, requirements and pitfalls
  • Handling of synchronous/isochronous data: architecture and use of Extended Resource Manager
  • Network administration: available functionality, typical application requirements for host and client devices and their implementation
  • Additional software modules and examples
