EVB-EQCO5X31 USB 3.2 GEN 1 Cable Extender
The EV40G35A is a card that incorporates the EQCO5X31 IC onto a small USB dongle that can be plugged into the host and device ends. The EQCO5X31 IC is a device that can be used on USB 3.2 Gen 1 networks to extend cable distances and improve signal quality to allow for longer cables to be supported. Microchip has called the EQCO5X31 IC a USB Reclocker/Redriver. It includes three functions:
1. An auto-adaptive equalizer at the receiver which automatically adjusts for frequency-dependent losses in the cable
2. A Reclocker which includes a bit-level CDR that re-times the signal to reset accumulated jitter
3. A Redriver that drives the cleaned-up signal onto a cable or PCB trace
The result is a device that simply passes through the signal at the Physical layer, equalizing the cable losses at its input, reclocking and redriving the signal back out, for both directions. Depending on the cable and connector quality, the EQCO5X31 can support up to 16m of passive cable. Testing has shown that the EV40G35A card can support up to 8-10m of passive USB 3.2 Type-C cable.
