A Battery Management System (BMS) is an intelligent embedded system. It ensures that the battery pack is safely charged, monitors the health of the battery pack and optimizes battery life via cell balancing. It also monitors current, voltage and temperature to optimize the battery’s operation and limit possible failures.

Rechargeable Lithium-ion (Li-ion) and Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries are widely used in Electric Vehicles (EVs). Each battery type has advantages and disadvantages as well as unique charging requirements.
